A Testimonial from the Co-Founder of Camp Addict, Marshall Wendler

Image
A Testimonial from the Co-Founder of Camp Addict, Marshall Wendler As a full-time RVer since April 2014, and the co-founder of Camp Addict, I’m always on the lookout for RV related products that can make my life easier. If the product is that much of a game-changer, then I want to shout from the hills about it. The SmartPlug is one of those products I love to spread the word about – it’s really that much better than the traditional twist-lock power plug that RVers have been stuck with for decades. The twist-lock style of RV power cords is what RVers are used to using, but it has a few flaws. The whole process is a major pain. You have to line up the L-pin, make sure you twist the connector enough so that you are making a solid connection with all three prongs, and then align the lock rings threads so you can tighten it down. Argh! I converted my twist-lock connector to a SmartPlug over a year ago and haven’t looked back. The SmartPlug allows for simple, one-handed connecti...

Installing an ELCI Prevents Electric Shock Drowning! | Smartplug ELCI

Image
Installing an ELCI Prevents Electric Shock Drowning! | Smartplug ELCI Anyone who’s come in contact with even a mild jolt of electricity knows the muscle spasms it can generate. Complete immersion after falling or unknowingly jumping into water that’s been electrified by a boat’s faulty wiring can trigger total body immobility and even stop a heart, tragically resulting in a drowning fatality. The cause is typically stray AC current exiting the boat and traveling back to its source on shore via the water instead of the ground wire. Fortunately, there are measures that can be taken to help prevent such occurrences, the centerpiece being an equipment leakage circuit interrupter or ELCI. SmartPlug Systems, pioneer in shore power safety, explains the importance of this critical piece of equipment and the simplicity of adding one by the average DIY boat owner. An ELCI is similar to a residential GFCI (ground-fault circuit-interrupter). The circuitry inside the device measures the inco...

RV Summer Preparation Checklist

Image
Adventure season is here! For many RVers, the season is just beginning and it’s the perfect time to do a routine check on your camper. Before you head out, be sure to follow along with this handy checklist to avoid problems on the road: Do A Safety Check–  Do you have smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, LP gas detectors, fire extinguishers and a first aid kit on board? These are all essential to a safe adventure. Check Fluids –  It’s important to check all fluids on board. If levels are low, this may indicate a problem or leak. Flush Your Water System–  De-winterize your system by flushing out the water tanks and sanitizing them. Be sure to check for leaks before you refill. Check Your Electrical Connection–  If your shore power connector shows signs of rust, melting or burning, it’s time for an update. SmartPlug is the safe, simple and secure choice of updating your electrical connection. Inspect your Appliances–  If you us...

Five Rivet Recognition

Image
FIVE RIVET RECOGNITION Exciting news for the Airstream industry! In May, Airstream launched their new Five Rivet Dealer Standards program, which was developed with input from Airstream’s Dealer Council to ensure it met dealer expectations. This status is measured daily and awarded quarterly. Well, Airstream has just announced their list of dealers who have earned the distinction of “Five Rivet” status. The Five Rivet Dealer Standard Program holds dealers to a very high standard for both sales and service departments. After meeting the high standards, the dealer must then receive high scores on customer surveys to obtain the official Five Rivet status. SmartPlug is the Easiest RV Power System!

Image
At SmartPlug, our goal was to not only create a safe and secure electrical connection system, but we wanted to make sure it was easy to install and use as well. Hearing from our happy customers means we’re doing our job right! Thanks to Roger for sharing his shore power installation review! Check out what he had to say on his blog “Casa Rodante –Our House on Wheels.” “Our shore power connector is a 50amp twist-type connector. The 50amp cord is heavy and unwieldy, especially in cold weather. I also have a 30amp cord that uses a specific twist-type connector that goes from 50amp on the trailer to 30amp on the cord connector. This twist-type setup is difficult for Roxie to use and getting harder for me. I have also heard of bad connection issues with twist-type. Time to look for another. I have seen the SmartPlug series of plugs and adapters for a while. Having some potential problems with our connectors made it seem more plausible to upgrade. A friend of mine, Bruce, recent...

Another Happy SmartPlug User How Do You Install Smartplug

ANOTHER HAPPY SMARTPLUG USER Recently, we had the pleasure of donating a smart plug in Southeast Region Rally to raise funds for the Hartland Gives Back project. Bob Currie was the winner of our Smartplug donation and was very kind to share his establishment experience with Smartplug. Bob had to say: “At the Abilene TX Rally, I placed an offer on a silent auction for a SmartPlug and won. For those that are interested, I installed it today with the assistance of Dave Seabolt and the moral support of David Williams. I just won the Smart Plug inlet and connector . But I called Terry at SmartPlug and I asked to get the entire inlet and cable and they made me an offer. Read more...
