Stray AC current leaking into the water from faulty marina or boat wiring can be lethal if someone falls in from a dock or deck. Avoiding such a tragedy is simple with the addition of a SmartPlug ELCI (equipment leakage circuit interrupter). Similar to a residential ground fault circuit interrupter, it instantly trips the breaker if a problem is detected to stop all electrical flow. A two-piece system, the SmartPlug ELCI Kit is comprised of a sensor and a 30A or 50A Breaker. The combination meets ABYC E-11 standards for ground fault protection and shore power circuit interruption. Both units have a UV-resistant enclosure housed in SmartPlug’s uniquely-designed but standard-size stainless steel or white non-metallic inlet. Completely automatic upon power-up, the SmartPlug ELCI element is UL-943 listed, has power and fault status indicators, and test and reset buttons. The rocker switch breaker is UL-489 listed with a trip level of <30mA (27mA nominal) at a tr...

Last summer we announced that all our RV cordsets now come equipped with an integrated LED reverse polarity indicating system. This important safety feature protects owners and RVs against improperly wired campground power pedestals and conforms with 2020 NFPA 70® Standard 551.40(D). What is Reverse Polarity?  Reverse Polarity occurs when the neutral or ground wire is connected to the hot terminal in error. RV’ers typically aren’t aware of this dangerous situation when plugging their camper, trailer, or motor home into a campground pedestal. While the power may appear to function normally, indicating that all is well, there is a serious potential risk of electric shock or a short circuit that could damage valuable electrical components. Similar to a residential plug testing tool, this enhanced SmartPlug technology has an easy-to-use color LED display. Know instantly if the power from the campground is flowing correctly with a blue LED. If the ground wire is swapped in a rev...

We’re excited to launch the newest product to our lineup – the SUPERFLEX50 50A 125/250V. While most power cords become stiff in extreme weather conditions, this revolutionary product remains incredibly flexible in extremely hot conditions and even down to –58° F. SUPERFLEX50’s covering is made from supple 100% Seoprene® Thermoplastic Elastomer. Inside is pure stranded bare copper and #6 wire. The combination ensures maximum electrical transfer and the utmost flexibility needed for easy handling. SmartPlug System’s SUPERFLEX50 can be used on standard marina 125V or 250V four-plug connections. It has dual LED power lights and is available in 25’ and 50’ lengths. Unlike traditional twist-style connections that are hard to align and thread, the asymmetrical SmartPlug pushes straight in. Dual locking clips and the inlet cover remove tension from the pins, holding the cord securely in place. Triple waterproof seals ensure a dry connection and protect internal elements from contaminates...

Tony Barber, company CEO, made the announcement. “We’re pleased to partner with Pac-West for representation in the west,” said Barber. “Jess Nelson and his colleagues have deep, longstanding relationships with their factories and customers, and they appreciate the safety aspect of products.” SmartPlug Systems has transformed how power is supplied to boats at dock. The revolutionary SmartPlug replaces outdated twist-type connectors and offers 27 times the metal-to-metal contact over them. This reduces electrical arcing, resistance, and resultant overheating—elements that are common causes of power failures and fires. It manufactures both vessel and marina pedestal connection equipment. With over 100 years of combined experience, Pac-West Marketing serves a wide range of marine segments including OE...

As of July 1, 2021, SmartPlug is implementing a reverse polarity feature in all RV Cordsets. This feature will include a series of light codes that will let the consumer know the condition of the power coming from the campsite power pedestal (see images below). Reverse polarity is a safety concern and can damage  electrical components on the Coach or trailer. This unsafe condition exists when the power coming from the pedestal is improperly wired. The issue has become enough of a concern that the New 2020 NFPA 70 National Electrical Code introduced language in the RV STD Article 551 to include a new section 551.40(D). This addition requires a reverse polarity device on all new recreational vehicles (The complete definition can be found in the 2020 NFPA 70 Standard).   Ensure that you always travel safe with SmartPlug! Not only are our cordsets weatherproof and easy to use, they will ensure your family can safely enjoy your next adventure! Get Know more :  RV Pow...
